I am a fan. And when USMNT lost a friendly match to Brazil a week ago it hurt me all too much; very deep inside. Nevertheless, it was comforting (albeit annoyingly so) to read Ryan Rosenblatt’s take on the game, which fairly noted the efforts of the USA in spite of their big loss.
And then there was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who, one week later, made me feel that very same way. But – again – I found comfort, this time in the fact that Tsonga played and he played hard – probably the best comeback over two consecutive sets that I’ve ever seen of him on Roland Garros courts.
In the clichéd spirit of ‘winning isn’t everything,’ fans choose their colors and in the face of the odd earth-shattering loss still feel honored to wear them: back to the drawing board, crayons out, red, white and blue work just fine for me.
